ICOpro courses:

Canyoneer Initiation (CAi):

Each trip with Abel Tasman Canyons can also be your CAi because we follow a one-day, canyoning course curriculum designed by the ICOpro. The CAi course is an introduction to canyoning as a sport, and it is taught by a certified ICOpro Instructor and Assistant Instructor.

More on Canyoneer Initiation

The CAI course covers the basics of the activity, including the explanation of canyoning and equipment, communication within the canyon, walking and scrambling techniques, progression on safety lines, rappelling on ropes, jumping and sliding techniques, and opportunities to learn more with ICOpro. At the completion of every tour, participants will be validated with a Canyoneer Initiation certification card, as well as be registered on the ICOpro network where they can access resources like a free CAI manual. While the CAI course follows a formal framework, its primary purpose is to share the passion of canyoning with others and, most importantly, to have fun!

Once you’ve completed your CAI training, the next step in canyoning is the Canyoneer Level 1-2-3 (CA123) course.
