About this canyon

From Torrent Bay we walk up the Cascade Falls track for about 1 hour. Then it’s time to get adventurous, we go off the beaten track through some seriously steep and challenging terrain for another hour to get to the top of the big waterfalls. We take a breather and grab a bite to eat before we take the plunge. It will take us about three hours to get through the wet ‘n wild world of Falls River. This canyon is filled with back to back challenging waterfall abseils, jumps, slides and fast floats. Then it’s time to unwind, we take the 45 minute walk back to Torrent Bay along Cascade Falls track… mostly downhill this time!

OPTION 1: Bare canyoning trip

This option works well if you have other adventures planned in the Abel Tasman National Park and would like to integrate an awesome canyoning trip along the way.

We will meet you on the beach at the water taxi drop off spot at Torrent Bay at 9:45am. From there we’ll walk up the tracks to the top of the canyon. We descend the canyon and walk back to Torrent Bay. Water taxi’s don’t pick up from Torrent Bay in the afternoon so you’ll have to organise another night in the park at either Torrent Bay or Anchorage.

Feel free to contact us to help you plan your Abel Tasman adventures.

OPTION 2: Water taxi - canyoning - glamping

Join us on a spectacular water taxi ride from Marahau to Torrent Bay. From there we’ll walk up the tracks to the top of the canyon. We descend the canyon and walk back out to Anchorage where your nights accommodation awaits you, glamping in Anchorage. After a big day of action and fun you are met with a cold beer or cup of tea, nibbles and a gourmet meal surrounded by New Zealand perfection. You sleep peacefully on a comfortable bed listening to the sounds of nature as you drift off to sleep. Camping along the Abel Tasman Track unites you with nature like no other accommodation can, with stunning starry skies, glow worm caves, and native wildlife to be encountered and admired close up.

The following morning when the native birds wake you up it might take you a while to realise you’re still in paradise. You can fill in the rest of your time in the park however you like. Carry on exploring the park, walk back to Marahau, go sea kayaking, go sailing, take a water taxi, your call. We’re happy to help you plan the rest of your trip when you make the booking.

“Epic day out!”

Tripadvisor Review

FANTASTIC! This was an awesome day out – I’m a local and have spent loads of time in the Abel Tasman but I’ve never experienced it quite like this before. Such a cool perspective of the park. The canyon was beautiful and the day was packed with adrenaline and laughs. Lee and Mark were brilliant and definitely made the day. Highly recommended. Thanks guys!
