About this canyon

From Marahau you’ll join us on an exhilarating water taxi ride through the Astrolabe Roadstead into Anchorage. You then leave the golden sand beaches of the coast for a stunning 1.5 hour walk up and further into the Abel Tasman National Park. Along the way the guides will keep you entertained with endless amounts of stories about the history, culture, flora and fauna of the park. Delicious lunch is served before the action starts. At the top of the canyon you’ll jump into your rubber suit, crank your harness tight and pop your helmet on. After a clear safety briefing by the guides you enter the truly remote environment of the canyon. You’ll be jumping, sliding, abseiling, scrambling, floating and ziplining through this canyon for about 3.5 hours. The trip finishes with a royal slide into Cleopetras Pool…From the pool it is a 30 minute stroll along the river and the beach back to Anchorage where your water taxi awaits to zip you back to Marahau.

Getting there

The Torrent River trip starts from the beach at Anchorage. There are three ways to get there. You can either come with us on the 45 minute water taxi ride from Marahau in the morning (included in price), or you can turn your Abel Tasman experience into a multisport journey by walking or sea kayaking your way in. The walking distance from Marahau to Anchorage is 11.5 km and will take you about 3.5 hours. Sea kayaking from Marahau to Anchorage takes about 3 hours. At the end of the canyoning trip you have the same three options to get back. Click here for a map. We recommend to not plan any other physical activity on the day of the canyoning trip as you will burn a fair amount of energy. So if you walk or sea kayak in or out we advise you to do this the day before or after and to stay overnight at the hut or campsite at Anchorage. Make sure you book your accommodation in the park well in advance, the hut and campsites can be fully booked in the peak season.
Hang on…..before you run off into the park without us, you must catch up with us to get your wetsuit fitted.

“AMAZING!”

Tripadvisor Review

Went to NZ for 6 weeks and this was, without a doubt, the best day of our holiday!!! I would recommend it to anyone. Firstly, The Abel Tasman National Park is just breathtakingly beautiful. Secondly, canyoning is the most fun you could ever have! This was my first experience canyoning and I didn’t really know what to expect but the torrent river canyon trip was great for first timers with good jumps, abseils and more, with alternatives for those who perhaps aren’t feeling quite as brave. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie so I did all of it! It’s a sad moment when you come to the end of the canyon, you never want it to end!! The guides, Tim and Mark were great too and made it a very entertaining and unforgettable day! Also great customer service when booking! Can’t fault whatsoever!

Well done guys!
